Every Saturday from 3 to 5 pm, Found Sound Records in North Miami becomes a radio station. We stream live at abovethecloudsradio.com. No playlists, no algorithms, no digital files. Just records.
That's Above the Clouds Radio — a vinyl-only, free form radio show running for 8 years and 469 episodes. Every single one is archived and available to stream.
What "All Vinyl" Actually Means
All vinyl radio means every track comes from a physical record. No streaming, no MP3s, no Serato. The music lives in the grooves and comes through a needle. You hear the warmth, the crackle, the slight variations in tempo that digital audio smooths out. It sounds different because it is different.
Free form means there's no format. No genre rules, no era rules. A set might move from 70s Miami soul to obscure jazz to a Latin 45 to a hip-hop instrumental from 1994 to something nobody in the room has ever heard.
How It Started
Above the Clouds Radio launched in 2017 — before Found Sound Records even existed — with DJ KEMS (@dj_kems) and close friend Lumin (@oddinhuman). The two of them built the show from the ground up. Lumin was there through the first 100 episodes before stepping away. KEMS held it down from there.
When rap79 opened Found Sound Records in December 2019, the show found its home in the shop — and the two have been inseparable since.
The Records, the People
The records on the show come from two distinct places. KEMS plays from his personal collection — over 6,000 records accumulated over nearly 30 years, with one of the most genuinely diverse musical tastes you'll encounter anywhere. His sets go places most DJs wouldn't think to go. He relocated at the start of 2026 but his sessions are still part of the broadcast every Saturday, streamed in the shop.
rap79's sets draw from a mix of his own personal collection and the store's new arrivals. What comes through the shop often finds its way into his sets — and sometimes the records he plays on air end up for sale, because he's both the DJ and the owner of the store.
The people who play on Above the Clouds Radio aren't random — they're friends, some for years, some who became friends through the show itself. It's a tight circle by design, and the music reflects it.
Eight Years In
469 episodes across 8 years. That's a real body of work — all archived, all streamable at abovethecloudsradio.com. It's a document of the music, the friendships, and the store.
